My Story
In 2015, I quit my agency job to tell stories full-time.
I’d always been a storyteller. As far back as I can remember, I wrote stories – teen detective novels; romance novellas; plays and movies, which I forced my young cousins to star in. For my undergraduate degree, I studied other people’s stories. For my graduate degree, I did my capstone research project on how non-profit organizations use stories to build their brands.
It took some time for me to realize that storytelling could be not just my passion, but my career. That the world’s insatiable appetite for content meant a bottomless demand for good stories, well told.
So I quit my job to become a full-time freelance brand strategist and copywriter. At the time, I didn’t have any clients or a plan or (if I’m being totally honest) much money in the bank. It was rash and a little reckless. And it was the best thing I’ve ever done.
One of the best parts? Being self-employed allows me to work from anywhere—a flexibility I’ve taken full advantage of over the years. I believe frequent changes of scenery make me a better and more inspired writer. (But don’t worry, wherever in the world I am, I’ll work with you on your time zone.)
